Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7/2018

I operate http://askhoyle.com (the “Site”). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information we receive from users of the Site. We use your Personal Information only for providing and improving the Site. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.  Anything you type on this site implies your consent to the system saving it.

Information Collection And Use

While using our Site, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to your name (“Personal Information”).  I also use Google AdSense, but I don’t do anything special, so their policy applies to whatever it is they do.   I just try to make back a few cents of my hosting fees.  Otherwise I don’t use, collect or sell data you give me.  I certainly don’t want any personal or financial data from you.

Who are we?

I’m just one person, and I don’t do this for money, but since there are no other people, that makes me the “data controller” and the “data protection officer” as well as “guy who writes things.”  You can reach me via this page.

Log Data

Like many site operators, we collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Site (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics. In addition, we may use third party services such as Google Analytics that collect, monitor and analyze this data.

Communications

We may use your Personal Information to contact you with newsletters, marketing or promotional materials and other information.  Probably not, but if you give me your email address it means I have it.  if you don’t want me to have it anymore, tell me so and I can delete it from wherever it is.

Cookies

Cookies are files with small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on your computer’s hard drive. Like many sites, we use “cookies” to collect information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Site.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.  So, really don’t give me anything important, I don’t want it.

Sharing of data

I don’t share your data, except as it’s visible in the page.  If you post a comment detailing your mother’s favorite cookie recipe, it will be there for the world to see.  If your mother finds out, that’s on you.

Storage of data

I have no idea what server my hosting provider uses to store this, or what country it is in. If that matters to you, please don’t provide any information.  I keep whatever data you give me until I get bored and delete it, or I stop paying my hosting bill and my provider deletes it.  If you ask me to I will also delete it.  Again, please don’t give me anything you don’t want me to have.

Per GDPR, you have the following rights, which you should probably read up on via some site that specializes in that:

  • access to personal information
  • correction and deletion
  • withdrawal of consent (if processing data on condition of consent)
  • data portability
  • restriction of processing and objection
  • lodging a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office

Changes To This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective as of July 2018 and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page. We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after we post any modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy. If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you either through the email address you have provided us, or by placing a prominent notice on our website.

Automated decision making and profiling

I don’t even know how to do that, so I don’t.  Google AdSense might, but that’s on them.

Linking to other web sites

Anything I link to is not an endorsement, unless it says it is.  If someone paid me to say so, I’ll tell you that.  If you want to pay me millions of dollars to say so, please contact me.  Actually thousands would be plenty.  I might accept a ham sandwich if it has really good mustard on it.
